Sebastian Elk's Soccer Shoot Results
2007

The 7th Annual Sebastian Elks Soccer Shoot sponsored by Sebastian Elks Lodge #2714 was held on Saturday, October 27th, 2007 at the Barber Street Sports Complex. 55 young people competed, boys and girls in each age group, U-8, U-10, U-12, and U-14, for the opportunity to win 1st, 2nd or 3rd place trophies. First place finishers also have the opportunity to compete at the District competition against players from Cocoa and Cocoa Beach down to Stuart-Jensen.

The Elks Soccer Shoot program consists of two different contests that test different level skills at different ages. A "Five Goal Contest" consists of a series of five goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches. The age groups that use these goals are divided into two categories, U-8 includes all ages seven years old and younger, and U-10 group includes ages eight and nine. The contest is open to boys and girls who are scored separately. The U-8 contestants kick from 15 feet from the face of the goal, while the U-10 contestants kick from 18 feet from the goal.

The Grid Goal Contest consists of a full-size goal sectioned off so points can be scored when the ball is kicked into certain sections. The age groups that use this goal are U-12, which include the ages ten and eleven, and U-14, which include ages twelve and thirteen. The contest is open to both boys and girls and are scored separately.

The Trophy Awards ceremony will be scheduled in the near future and will be held at the Sebastian Elks Lodge on Fleming Street. The ceremony will include a hamburger/hot dog feast and is open to the top 3 finishers in each category and their families.

Sebastian Elks Team Sweep District Soccer Shoot

The Sebastian Elks Soccer Shoot team swept the District Competition held November 17th, taking all first place awards and the right to represent Sebastian and the Southeast Central District at the Regional competition to be held December 1st in Ft. Pierce. The District Soccer Shoot pits teams from Cocoa and Cocoa Beach down to Stuart-Jensen Elk Lodges and was held at the Sebastian Elk Lodge on Fleming Street. This year, however, the Sebastian team met little resistance as many of the District's 11 Elk Lodges failed to field a team to represent their respective Lodges. All competitors and their families were treated to a luncheon of burgers and hot dogs. Competitors were given either Gold or Silver medals, depending upon their scores against the competition.

All these fine competitors will compete at the State Regional Soccer Shoot at Ft. Pierce December 1st against children from Lodges across the Central Region of Florida, including Daytona Beach down to Stuart, Tampa down to Sarasota and all points in between including Orlando, Sebring and many other cities and towns. Winners at the Regional Shoot will compete at the Florida Elks Youth Camp in Umatilla on January 5th for the State Championship.
